Week 10: Class 1
Today was Interim presentation. We set up our current work (updated posters from our photo-shoot and wireframe app mock-up) for peer feedback and also visited other work from upstairs and gave feedback to our peers.
Our feedback was very constructive and helpful, we found that overall people were excited by the idea however needed clarification in the form of a "big idea" and journey map. We will continue to develop and make changes in order to achieve this clarification and continue user testing to ensure understanding.

Detox example - Negative
We found an example online of a pre-existing 21 day sugar "detox". This is an example of how daunting and negative the current challenges are to complete. We feel that the limitation of certain fruit (called a "no" food) and vegetables is actually a deterrent for the users wellbeing, as currently fruit and vegetables are often not apart enough of a typical students diet. This list of yes and no foods is also daunting because of its size, our app will aim to be manageable tasks every week to promote a healthy lifestyle change that is realistic.

Week 9: Class 1
Through further user testing we discovered that people were responding well to the rhetoric and humour in the copy. We want to develop this to make it concise. We also found from feedback that sickly pastel colours were received well however our logo is currently not crisp enough, from peer feedback, so we are working on a more defined and crisp visual style. Overall it is helpful to see that the users are understanding our idea from the posters and enjoying the humour contained in them, now that we have our core idea locked in it will be simple to develop the visual style to the standard it needs to be.

IDEO: LEARN. Ministry of Health Research
Below are screenshots from the Ministry of Health's (our clients) website.
Obesity statistics for New Zealand are one of the highest in the world, with increased risk for Maori and Pacific adults. It also shows us that the rate of obesity is increasing, so is a growing problem. It also is clear that adults in deprived areas are 1.8 times as likely to be obese which shows that, with little money, sugary, cheap alternatives are being eaten and contributing to obesity. With education and information on sugar, exercise and how to limit process food, there is room for a significant increase in health.
A major causes of death in NZ is heart disease, which can be linked to obesity. This shows there is a chance for some very real change in NZ. Other heart issues and diabetes (also shown on the list) can also be linked to sugar intake and obesity. Another interesting statistic is the high suicide rate in males, there is also a significant increase in mental wellbeing through a healthy diet and increase in exercise.
The Ministry of Health NZ food guidelines encourage healthy eating, exercise and specifically mention limiting sugar. This shows that information is available on healthy choices and sugar intake for NZ young adults however the Ministry of Health currently does little to appeal specifically to young adults.
This shows that the Ministry also had information on sugar specifically in relation to tooth decay. The teaspoons are more informative than the previous pages as they show specifically the amount of sugar in each drink and puts it into visual perspective for the reader.

Week 8: Class 2
Today in class we started our Journey map. Through discussion with peers and the tutor, we decided the key idea in the journey map was the concept of "breaking up with sugar". This will be our key idea and call to action for consumers.

Week 8 : Class 1
In todays class we conducted some further user testing experimenting the our idea of personifying sugar in a humorous way before revealing its relation to food and health. We are experimenting with the idea of a person being "too sweet" with examples of an overly clingy boyfriend. We asked fellow students to look at the posters and then asked them whether in the beginning they were aware it was about sugar, if they feel it made sense and how they felt towards Ben overall (our personification of baked beans). We discovered that students found this a fun and humorous concept, with many noting that they found it a clever way to represent sugar to youth. We also found students were unaware of the "sweet" persons association to "sweet" food in the beginning which was our desired response. Overall people had trouble determining whether the character was being nice or creepy which was also an interesting response. While most users found the message clear after the last poster, we found that we have to work on the message being clearer so that everyone can understand completely in the end.
IDEO - ASK
We conducted an in-class survey to determine which food products with hidden sugar that students are having on a regular basis. From this we can consider which elements to focus on for our campaign. Our results found that our previous focus on a baked beans example may be less relevant to students as pasta sauce because of the rate in which they consumer the products.

Week 7: Class 2
Today in class we were given 10 minutes to mock up and test our visual ideas, while still in the early stages we found that our idea has potential as the classmates we tested on found the idea clever and interesting. We found in the initial stages of the campaign they were unaware of the food connotations in the campaign and instead considered it was a "loveyourcondom" ad. They also found the character sweet at first but then creepy, and once discovering it was about sugar they made the connection between hidden sugar and dishonesty. We recorded their feedback below.
IDEO - LEARN - Secondary research
Below are some campaigns that already are addressing the issue on sugar.
That Sugar Film is an experiment by Aussie actor, Damon Gameau who ate 40 teaspoons of sugar a day in order to see the effects on his body. This documentary follows his journey to show sugars effects in a personal way that has created a large hype and social media presence.

That sugar film
Website
Website "I quit sugar" is a popular website for youth and adults encouraging a 8 week program to get people away from sugar. However this website comes across as a "diet fad" which would be off-putting for the general public.
Anti-sugar poster campaign displaying sugar in an unappetising way.
